Bep Vroegh (Jacobs)

Breeder of Pomeranians, owner of kennel: Sweet little hearts located in Gorinchem The Netherlands

I find it very sad to have to share that someone who has been a member of the breed club in the Netherlands for so long is deliberately doing it so wrong. On June 9, 2023, a very beautiful girl named Gigi sweet little hearts was born together with other brothers and sisters. Very soon a golden basket was sought for Gigi and she found it with a wonderfully sweet person. The first time her new owner came to visit on July 24th and immediately fell in love with this beautiful black and tan girl. Bep clearly indicated several times that the parents were both healthy and that the puppy could move to her new home from August with a health certificate. Bep came across very well and it seemed like everything was alright, she seemed like a small-scale hobby breeder who had the best interests of the breed at heart.

August 1st was the day, beautiful Gigi was 7 weeks and three days old and was allowed to go to her new home. For a moment, her new mom was completely over the moon with her little girl. Unfortunately, this did not last, at 5 months Gigi started experiencing strange symptoms such as spinning around and scratching air and yawning a lot. It was also clear that she was suffering from something and that there was pain. She was immediately taken to the vet. He discovered patellar luxation in both knees and prescribed painkillers. Unfortunately, the complaints did not go away and seemed to get worse over time.

At 7 months Gigi came into heat for the first time and seemed to be in more and more pain. Once again they acted quickly and went to the vet. The vet said that there was a string in her uterus that she didn't processing very well and that it would diminish after 3 to 4 weeks and the pain should disappear, for which she was given painkillers again. However, Gigi's owner was not feeling well after 4 weeks and her poor girl did not seem to improve after those 3 to 4 weeks. They returned to the vet and another ultrasound was made. When the ultrasound was made, Gigi screamed in pain. The vet thought it was due to the serious patellar luxation and immediately scheduled an appointment for surgery. Again, Gigi's owner went home and watched it for a few days, but the complaints worsened and Gigi did not limp or pull her paws. This indicated that patellar luxation could not be the cause of the pain. Gigi's owner really wanted to do everything in her power to find out what was really going on with her little girl.

Her complaints worsened every day and she screamed in pain, turned in circles, started shivering, crawled into a corner with her head between her front legs against the wall. While shivering, she let her pee flow from the pain. The vet still didn't seem to know what could be causing her pain. Meanwhile, her owner called the university animal hospital in Utrecht to obtain more information about what it could possibly be. The doctors there quickly thought of SM/CM.

Fortunately, Gigi was able to quickly contact Paul Mandigers and the nightmare became reality on March 20, 2024 due to the results of the MRI scan. Gigi has cm 1 and sm 2c as well as three abnormally large open fontanelles. It was initially assumed that the breeder could not do anything about this as she clearly indicated that the dogs had been declared healthy and nothing abnormal had been found. She also indicated that her vet had checked Gigi for open fontanelles, but according to the vet's own words, this never happened. Gigi's owner initially agreed to the compensation offered because it was thought it was bad luck and the breeder had done her best to breed a healthy puppy.

However, this turned out not to be the story at all. When Gigi's owner repeatedly asked for the test results from the parents, Bep only sent them long after receiving the compensation. To her surprise, only mother Layla appeared to have tested cm 0 and sm 0 and father Muppet appeared to have cm 1 and sm 1. As every breeder knows, breeding with SM 1 is absolutely prohibited. Bep, on the other hand, has completely ignored this and has simply continued to breed with this sick male who has now also created puppies with this terrible incurable disease, which can only be treated with medication. as long as the body accepts it and a quality life can be led without pain. It is therefore really very distressing that Bep lied in advance about the test results and that a shady purchase contract is drawn up full of spelling errors that also states that the dog has been found to be healthy. It is a great shame that this type of breeder is a member of the Dutch Pomeranian kennel club. I hope that this will soon no longer be the case because Bep does not take the rules very seriously, as breeding takes place with and without a pedigree so that she can earn extra money from the poor breeding females who have to breed more than once a year. can. There is also clearly breeding with a male who has SM/CM, which is really not allowed.

The board of directors should certainly take stricter action against these types of breeders who dare to call themselves hobby breeders. Bep has also been a member of my group for a long time on Facebook and there she indicates in her comments how terrible she finds all these horror breeders. I quote her comment: ''People think that their puppy cannot get sick if they come from tested parents. Unfortunately that also happens. It is sometimes thought that a puppy with a pedigree is a guarantee of a healthy puppy, but they can also become ill. But knowingly selling sick dogs with false data then you are bad person through and through.'' Do you see the irony in this? I do, because Bep is who she says she thinks is bad through and through. She breeds with a sick male, then it is not surprising that the puppies will get the disease and you are certainly doing very wrong for the breed.

No compensation in the world can make up for this sadness and suffering. I am therefore hastily looking for other victims of Bep Vroegh (Jacobs) and other owners of her dogs. There was also a puppy from the same litter as Gigi sweet little hearts who turned out to have hydrocephalus.

All evidence has been shared in the pictures. I hope we will find other people who have bought dogs from Bep Vroegh so I can inform them about having their dogs scanned as there is a good chance that their dogs may also be carriers of the terrible diseases Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia and medication may already be necessary, as well as for poor Gigi. I am very happy that her dear owner is doing as much as possible to keep Gigi pain-free, but it is still a nightmare that should not have become reality. Bep could have prevented this situation by never breeding with a sick male, see also the Dutch law, article 3.4, breeding with companion animals: It is prohibited to breed with companion animals in a way that harms the welfare and health of the parent animals or the offspring. . ''This is something that everyone believes that Bep Vroegh has certainly done and I am therefore of the opinion that the breed association and the board of directors are the ones who should take action as quickly as possible to stop these types of breeders. They should no longer allow her to be a member of the kennel club if there is so much evidence against this type of breeder. Bep currently has new puppies and I personally advise everyone against purchasing a dog from her.
